Technical
Karter's when ever possible keep to time honored
methods of joinery construction, but nothing in life stands still and we
incorporate the best of modern technology into our windows, sympathetically
without destroying the original character and design.
The traditionalists among you may want perfect
reproductions of your original windows which we can achieve right down to the
wavy glass, but most customers want something in between, a traditional window
with a modern performance which will enhance their period property.
Our quality frames are crafted in the same manner and
skill as the old frames we are replacing. Such as mortices and tenon joints,
elegant narrow glazing bars, reproduced mouldings and shaped horn details. We
offer a range of timber options to craft your windows and doors from.
Quality softwood of the redwood varieties sourced
from the Nordic regions for their highest joinery grades. Douglas Fir is an
often preferred option for doors due to it's natural stability and resinous
qualities.
Hardwoods such as Sapele and Oak for it's ultimate
durability are an increasingly popular option requested by our
clients.
All timber used at Karter's is of a high quality from
responsibly managed sources. We recognise that timber is an important natural
resource and support responsible forest management worldwide.
Glazing
There are many different types of glazing from single
glazing used mainly in our projects carried out on listed buildings and
conservation area properties. Laminates can be used where added security is a
requirement.
Coloured glass and lead light panels are often used in
our front entrance feature doors, reviving originals designs.
Double glazed sealed units are now the preferred
option for glazing as it both complies with part "L" building regulation and
the growing awareness of environmental issues regarding heat loss and reducing
energy bills by quite significant amount.
Double glazed units are 24mm thick toughened glass for
safety and security, argon gas filled and with low "E" glass used on the inside
leaf which also improves heat loss by allowing naturally produced heat in but
not allowing internally generated heat to pass out.
The double glazed units are fitted from the inside of
the window thus not allowing their removal from outside for maximum security
and weathering.
Installation Service
We offer a full installation service of your new
windows by experienced and polite staff who are used to working in
domestic situations to a clean and safe standard.
We are always vigilant when it comes to your security
whilst working in your home. We do not leave doors ajar, the house
unattended when windows have been removed or lose your keys.
On the day of installation we will sheet with plastic
all floor covering then lay hardboard on top, furniture will be covered in dust
sheets. Bear in mind removing one hundred year old windows can be a messy job
so anything delicate or easily knocked over is best removed from the area for
safety.
Any problems with removing and replacing curtains or
large pieces of furniture, please mention this to our surveyor when he visits
to measure, as we will do our utmost to help. |
